Worried Chelsea send Reece James for scan on his knee just days before club depart on gruelling pre-season tour to US

WORRIED Chelsea have sent Reece James for a scan on his knee — just days before teammates depart for a gruelling pre-season tour to the USA.

James, 23, has been one of Chelsea’s star players ever since his debut in 2019.

But injury problems limited him to just 16 league appearances last season.

And Chelsea received a fright this week when James pulled up in training after feeling pain in his troublesome knee.

The England right-back has now been sent for a scan on the problem area.

And Chelsea face a nervy wait, with Mauricio Pochettino banking on James being one of his key men next term.

However, the Cobham academy product is hopeful that nothing serious has happened.

And he is likely to make the plane for Chelsea’s three-week tour of the USA later this month.

The Blues will take on four opponents as they prepare to bounce back from a difficult campaign under four different managers.

Chelsea’s first match sees them take on Ryan Reynolds’ Wrexham.

They will then play Premier League rivals Brighton, Fulham and Newcastle.

And the Blues will be hoping for no further injury setbacks ahead of their season opener against Liverpool.

Chelsea have already welcomed several new faces to the squad, including loanee Levi Colwill, right-back Malo Gusto and forward Christopher Nkunku and Nico Jackson.

A whole host of stars have gone in the opposite direction, with the likes of Mason Mount and Kai Havertz leaving for pastures new.

But Chelsea hope to continue advancing with their transfer plans as they close in on Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo.
