Why you should always reverse into a parking space – it could save you a FORTUNE

A CAR expert has revealed the reason why you should always reverse into a parking space – and it could save you a FORTUNE.

Dan Ufer claims that it is ‘best practice’ to reverse into a car park bay, as those who back out are considered responsible for any accident that might occur, regardless of the circumstances.

The expert explained: “So in a shopping centre car park situation, if one vehicle is reversing out and one is driving out, and they collide in the middle, the reversing driver is always at fault.

“And in situations where you are both reversing, what commonly happens is what’s referred to as in each bare own claims, which means one party pays for their loss and the other party pays for their loss, and the insurers don’t get involved at all.

“So reduce your risk of being at fault and reverse park.”

The video was uploaded to TikTok by @priorityinsurancebrokers and has had 1.2million views and hundreds of comments.

Viewers thanked Mr Ufer for the advice saying it was a simple tip but generally not well-known.

One said: “This is great. Now I just have to master the reverse park.”

Another said: “So what happens when you get into an accident when you’re going into space?”

A third pointed out: “Yeah, there is so much better visibility driving forward out of space than backing out.”

Australian insurer Vero backs up Mr Ufer’s tip, saying that the road rules are clear, The Daily Mail reports.

“In all states, the road rules state that a driver must not drive a vehicle in reverse unless it is safe to do so.”

“The law also states that drivers should not reverse a vehicle any further than what is reasonably required.

“In an insurance liability setting, the driver who is driving in reverse is automatically deemed to be the at-fault driver, regardless of other circumstances such as illegally parked cars and the other driver moving at speed.”
