RAC launch new app which could help save drivers 6p a litre at petrol pumps

A NEW app could help drivers save up to 6p a litre at the petrol pumps.

The RAC has launched Fuel Finder, a free app which allows drivers to locate the five cheapest places for fuel in their area.

The group says it could save drivers who fill up weekly £172 on diesel and £142 on petrol.

It comes ahead of promised government plans for a Pumpwatch scheme, campaigned for by The Sun.

The RAC’s Simon Williams said the app will stop drivers being “ripped off” by greedy forecourts refusing to pass falling fuel costs onto customers.

“The more people that use it, the more likely we are to see other retailers nearby lowering their prices to compete,” he said.

Last month, Chancellor Jeremy Hunt warned petrol firms against snaffling up falling costs themselves.

A report showed that the big four supermarkets had overcharged drivers for fuel by £900million last year.

Meanwhile, motorway service stations charged about 20p more for petrol and 15p more for diesel compared to other fuel stations.
