Super rare Ferrari as featured in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off tipped to sell for an eye-watering price at auction

A SUPER rare Ferrari is tipped to sell for over £9million at a prestigious Californian auction.

The vintage 1960 250 GT SWB California Spider is the same model as featured in the hit 80s film ‘Ferris Bueller’s Day Off’ – and it comes with an impressive racing history.

One of only 18 ever made, the light blue, open-top classic with red leather upholstery has had seven owners, but has since been restored.

It finished third in its class in the famous Italian Targa Florio race in 1963 – the only Ferrari of its type to have competed.

Unlike the replica car in the smash movie, this Ferrari is the real deal – boasting a top speed of 156mph and able to cover 0-60mph in just 6.1 seconds.

But if you fancied something a little more modern for the same price, you could snap up 50 brand new Ferrari Roma models – each costing around £175,000.

The new model is quicker too, as it can blast from 0-60mph in just 3.4 seconds and reach a maximum speed of 198mph.

The Ferrari 1960 250 GT SWB California Spider is being sold by auctioneers RM Sotheby’s, and is one of 128 sports cars going under the hammer in Monterey, California, US, between 17 and 19 August.

A spokesperson said: “RM Sotheby’s is thrilled to announce the offering of the sole 1960 Ferrari 250 GT SWB California Spider by Scaglietti to compete in period at the legendary Targa Florio.

“This remarkable Ferrari, known for its racing pedigree and unmatched elegance, presents an extraordinary opportunity for passionate collectors and automotive enthusiasts to own a piece of motoring history.

The estimate on the Ferrari is between £7.5 million and £9.1 million.
