Ricky Martin ‘seeks joint custody of kids after divorce’

Singer Ricky Martin is seeking joint custody of his children with husband Jwan Yosef, from whom he announced his divorce just days ago, according to reports.

According to court documents obtained by People, the 51-year old is seeking joint physical and legal custody of his and Yosef’s two young children Lucia, four, and Renn, three. Martin is also father to 14-year-old twin sons Matteo and Valentino, who he will be raising as a single parent. Martin welcomed all four of his children via surrogate.

In the petition he filed for divorce, the She Bangs singer also listed the cause of the split being “irreconcilable differences”, and the date of separation is yet to be decided.

Martin will also be paying Yosef, 38, spousal support, though they have yet to determine how their property assets or debts will be split, if there are any, as well as any attorney’s fees throughout the process.

The Puerto Rican singer and Syrian-Swedish artist announced their intent to divorce in a joint statement on Thursday (overnight in Australia).

“For some time, we have considered transforming our relationship, and it is after careful consideration that we have decided to end our marriage with love, respect and dignity for our children,” read the statement, posted in Spanish to Martin’s Social media and in English to Yosef’s.
