Barnes is set for an immediate return to the Premier League with the Toon, Aston Villa, Tottenham and West Ham all keen.

Reports suggest that Eddie Howe’s side are currently ahead in the battle to sign him and his arrival could spell the end for fans’ favourite Allan Saint-Maximin.

The Guardian claim the 26-year-old Frenchman is the subject of interest from Saudi Arabian sides.

Selling Saint-Maximin would boost Newcastle’s transfer budget and he struggled with injuries and consistency last season.

Newcastle want to give Anthony Gordon and Miguel Almiron competition in the wide areas and increase their depth ahead of their Champions League return.

Leicester supposedly want £50million for Barnes but it is thought they could accept a lower fee.

Spurs are also in the race for the winger but they are expected to instead go for Manor Soloman from Shakhtar Donetsk, who spent last season on loan at Fulham.

West Ham are also interested in Barnes with David Moyes a huge fan of the player, who netted 13 goals last term.

The Hammers will soon have £105million to spend when Declan Rice’s move to Arsenal goes through.

Additionally, Villa want to add Barnes to their attacking options.
