Spain holiday boost as all Covid restrictions scrapped in time for summer

SPAIN has announced an ‘end to the Covid crisis’ in the country with its mask rules finally scrapped.

Brits on holiday will no longer have to carry a mask with them in case they need to visit a chemist or health centre.

The Spanish government today ended the obligation to wear masks in the last places where it was mandatory: pharmacies, hospitals and health centres, as well as nursing homes and residences.

The executive made the decision at the same time as decreeing the end of the health crisis.

Minister of Health, José Miñones said it will come into force in the next day or two once officially published in the Spanish Bulletin of Laws.

Despite the update, the Council of Ministers is urging people to maintain the “culture of responsibility” and says masks are still “highly recommended” for people who show signs of infections, anyone caring for someone with Covid and anyone in hospitals around vunerable patients.

The Government has decided to declare the end of the health crisis and all the extraordinary measures taking into account a report from the Centre for the Coordination of Health Alerts and Emergencies (CCAES).

“1,207 days after the arrival of the virus, the epidemiological situation is different,” stressed the minister who said that since November 2022, the incidence of Covid presents a “balanced” situation, with a downward trend “both in infections as in hospitalisations or deaths.

For this reason, he has concluded, “more than three years later, we can, without lowering our guard, say goodbye to a pandemic that has marked our lives.”

In the new phase, vaccination will be “the cornerstone”, according to the minister, who has advanced that there will be a new immunisation campaign next autumn.

However there are still some rules in place for Brits heading to Spain.

Before jetting off to Spain, make sure to check that your passport has at least three months left on it.

As for money, Brits are now required to show that they have at least £85 to spend each day – or could be turned away at the border.

Brits have been warned they face hefty fines for partying on top holiday destinations Ibiza and Majorca.

Clubbers could be hit with a £25,000 penalty if they attend illegal parties on the two islands, which have been clamping down on unlicensed events.

You could also face a huge fine if caught smoking on a beach while Majorca restaurants are also turning away Brits wearing football shirts.
