Ranking the best English clubs in last 15 years after Pochettino’s bold Chelsea claim he has joined BEST in country

NEW Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino claimed that he was joining “the greatest team in England” over the past 15 years.

However, based on trophies, Manchester City have overtaken the Blues as the most-successful side during that period following last season’s Treble-triumph.

Poch angered fans of old club Tottenham with his bold claims in his first interview as Chelsea chief.

Spurs supporters accused Pochettino of “disrespect” after rating fierce rivals Chelsea as England’s “greatest team” of the past 15 years.

The Argentine, 51, took Tottenham to the 2019 Champions League final.

But chairman Daniel Levy shocked fans by sacking him just months later – admittedly after he’d won nothing during his five-year reign.

Poch told the Blues’ media team: “In the last 10, 12, 15 years, Chelsea is the greatest team in England.”

But that isn’t quite true…

1. MAN CITY – 17 TROPHIES

Pep Guardiola’s City beat Inter Milan to win the Champions League for the first time in their history last month.

And that also secured their place in the history books as it confirmed them as Treble winners – and the accolade of being England’s most-successful club over the past 15 years.

They took advantage of Arsenal’s collapse to seal the Premier League title, their seventh in 15 years, and beat Man Utd in the FA Cup Final.

That Wembley triumph over the Red Devils was the third time they had lifted the trophy since 2008.

And add that to their six League Cup victories, that means they have lifted silverware 17 times over the 15-year period.

2. CHELSEA – 14 TROPHIES

That puts them three honours ahead of Chelsea, who have amassed an impressive 14 trophies during the same timeframe.

The Blues have lifted the title three times to go with their two Champions League victories, one more than any other English side in that time frame, and four FA Cups.

They have also enjoyed a League Cup and Uefa Super Cup triumph as well as winning the Club World Cup and Europa League twice.

That takes their tally to 14 trophies in 15 years.

3. MAN UTD – 12 TROPHIES

Chelsea’s haul is two clear of third-placed Manchester United.

The Red Devils tasted four title triumphs during Sir Alex Ferguson’s final years, the last coming in 2013, as well as winning the Champions League and Club World Cup.

United have also lifted the League Cup four times and the Europa League and FA Cup once apiece, taking their trophy haul to 12 since 2008.

Despite finding honours harder to come by since Fergie’s departure, they are still way ahead of their nearest rivals Liverpool.

4. LIVERPOOL – 7 TROPHIES

The Reds have won the Premier League, Champions League, Club World Cup, Uefa Super Cup and FA Cup since 2008 as well as two League Cup triumphs, which leaves them with a total of seven.

5. ARSENAL – 4 TROPHIES

Arsenal are behind them thanks to their four FA Cup victories, with Mikel Arteta desperate to add to that haul this coming season.

6. TOTTENHAM – 0 TROPHIES

And Pochettino’s former club Tottenham are still waiting to end their trophy-drought.

They lifted the League Cup in 2008, but they have not won a thing since, although new boss Ange Postecoglou is now tasked with stopping the rot.
