Price comparison sites are a “godsend” when it comes to travel, according to experts at online savings organisation NetVoucherCodes.
They can be a great way to make sure you’re getting the most bang for your buck.
But you can still find yourself being ripped off when using them.
So, experts recommend the money-saving trick of booking hotels with a free cancellation policy.
Free cancellation is a filter option on most price comparison sites, such as Expedia, Hotels.com, Booking.com and Trivago.
“Online travel agents are clever and change prices continuously so you need to play them at their own game,” the online savings experts write in a recent blog post.
“If you’re booking a hotel room, try and choose one with free cancellation.
“Monitor prices as you will notice that they eventually drop.
“Once you’ve noticed a price drop, cancel your room and re-book!”
Online travel agents are there to sell you a holiday, they don’t create them.
This means they sometimes bump up the prices.
“Don’t settle at the first price you see,” they add. “Be thorough and cover all possibilities before booking!”
