Mikel Arteta is showing he means business in the transfer window after throwing away the league last season.

Arsenal have already wrapped up a £65million deal for Chelsea forward Kai Havertz.

And they are now about to blow £105m on West Ham captain Declan Rice.

But the Gunners are now on the verge of a third signing, with the club agreeing a £40million fee with Ajax for versatile defender Jurrien Timber.

De Telegraaf claims a deal is near completion after Arsenal verbally agreed to cough up an initial £36m.

Add-ons will take the deal to £40m.

And that will see Arsenal’s spending hit £210million – £44m more than their combined spent of £166m in the last two windows.

The Gunners have made just one sale so far, with Pablo Mari joining loan side Monza for £4m.
