The little-known sheep theme park in the UK – with rides, cute animals and a distillery for parents

A LITTLE-KNOWN theme park in the UK offers rides, adorable animals and even a brewery and distillery for parents.

Finding a day out that suits everyone during the summer holidays can be tricky, but in North Devon there’s a place that has everyone’s interests well covered.

The Big Sheep in Bideford is a farm and theme park that describes itself as “North Devon’s most popular family attraction”.

For those interested in rides, the park has the Rampage rollercoaster, the “largest family ride” in the South West and the highest and fastest in North Devon.

The Big Sheep website claims the ride has “lots of twists and turns” and “ups and downs” as it goes around the track twice on each run.

Other rides include the Honey Pot Bears, as well as a special tractor ride track and electric quad bikes.

There’s also the Twister, with guests spun around on swings, and a train that goes around the park’s Swan Lake.

The lake also has swan pedalos for hire, while a tractor safari will take visitors to see some of the park’s star attraction – its animals.

The safari will take guests to visit llamas, alpacas and donkeys, while the nursery barn is home to lambs, piglets, ducklings and even collie puppies, bred to be working dogs at the park.

Guests can even feed the young animals, which are bred year-round in the nursery, or they can simply watch lamb feeding show, one of several popular displays families can see at the park.

There are also sheep races, with knitted jockeys placed on the backs of their competitors, and duck trials, where the park’s collies round up Indian running ducks and put them through their paces on an obstacle course.

As well as rides and animals, the park is home to both an indoor and outdoor playground, meaning kids have somewhere to play, whatever the weather.

However, the entertainment isn’t only designed for children, with plenty on site for adults too.

The park hosts gigs, with the likes of Spandau Ballet’s Martin Kemp and The Jam tribute act From The Jam both performing this summer.

Meanwhile, Shakespeare‘s A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Twelfth Night will both also be performed at The Big Sheep this year.

There’s also both gin and beer created at the theme park, providing plenty for parents to sample on their visits.

North Devon’s largest brewery, Country Life Brewery, produces more than 15,000 pints of ale every week on site.

Meanwhile, the park’s gin distillery is described as a “small batch, hand crafted, artisan distillery” with a “passion for distilling the essence of North Devon in its gin”.

Luckily, parents don’t have to drive home after their visits, meaning they’re free to sample the beverages.

Nearby accommodation at the Golden Coast Leisure Park in Woolacombe is available from £54.40 per night, in a lodge that sleeps six.

Camping pitches at Adventure Camping in Bideford are available from £30 per night.

Guests will also soon have the option to stay on site in boutique retreats, which will be opening to the public soon.

Tickets will have to pay £14.50 on the door, or £12.50 when booked in advance online.

For kids under three foot tall, it’s £5 online, or £8 on the door.

Prices go up during school holidays, so it’s worth checking for any increases.

One person who loved their visit to the park was Tiktoker Tori (@tori2678), who shared footage from her trip earlier this year.

Others have raved about the park on TripAdvisor too, where it has an overall rating of 4.5/5 from almost 3,000 reviews.

One wrote: “Was great all round experience, the live shows were excellent with great presenter, good food and great rides and softplay for children.”

Another said: “What a wonderful place! We love the rollercoaster and the petting/feeding barn!”

A third added: “Superb place and many activities to do inside and out.”
