Man Utd ‘reopen talks with Chelsea over Mason Mount’ but still won’t go near Blues’ £65m transfer asking price

MANCHESTER UNITED have reportedly reopened negotiations with Chelsea to sign Mason Mount.

It comes after United saw their third and supposedly final bid of £55million rejected.

Erik ten Hag remains a keen fan of Mount, and with United thus far failing to make any signings, pressure to mounting to ensure they are not left behind by rivals.

According to the Daily Mail, discussions have reopened with a view to trying to find a compromise between United’s third bid and the Blues’ asking price of £65m.

United, who will work around the edges of the deal, are said to be adamant they will not cave in to the demands of Todd Boehly and Co due to Mount having just one year left on his contract.

Mount, who has recently returned from holiday, is reportedly willing to accept whatever outcome may occur in negotiations.

Therefore, should the talks collapse, the 24-year-old will commit to knuckling down and training in pre-season under new boss Mauricio Pochettino.

Sources at Chelsea are said to believe the deal will not drag on indefinitely and will come to a head with a decisive decision next week.

If United fail to land Mount, they will switch their priority to Chelsea target Moises Caicedo – rated at £80m by Brighton.

The report adds the Mount saga continues alongside negotiations with Andre Onana.

Earlier this week it was reported that Inter Milan’s sporting director Piero Ausilio was set to fly to Manchester to meet with United over talks for a £43m transfer.

It comes with club legend David de Gea‘s contract expiring on Friday.

The Spaniard looks set to end his 12-year stay at Old Trafford after failing to agree new terms.

However, De Gea posted a cryptic tweet following reports he had signed a new contract before it was sensationally withdrawn by the club.

The untenable situation in the goalkeeper department may force the club to start pre-season with third-choice goalie Tom Heaton.

Former No.1 Dean Henderson, who spent last year on loan at Nottingham Forest, was said to be “perplexed” by rumours suggesting he may stay beyond the summer.
