We noticed our little boy, three, was putting on weight but doctors brushed it off… he died months later

A LITTLE boy who was diagnosed with a rare cancer after an unexplained weight gain has tragically died at the age of three.

Morgan Ridler was gaining weight in April 2021 when his parents took him to the doctor, but their fears were initially brushed off.

Little Morgan had also started to gain excessive body hair, so mum Natalie booked her two-year-old in to see the GP.

But during the appointment, the 32-year-old was told her son was ‘just overweight’ and was accused of ‘overfeeding him’.

Doctors told Morgan’s mum and dad that their young boy was “growing out to grow up” – but soon their worst fears came to fruition.

In October 2021, he was diagnosed with cancer and medics found he was suffering with a tumour on his adrenal gland, known as adrenal cortical carcinoma.

This is a rare disease in which cancer cells form in the outer layer of the adrenal gland, Cancer Research UK states.

The rare cancer had already spread, and continued to his lungs despite operations and treatment.

Last year, a student nurse warmed hearts across England after writing down Welsh phrases other nurses could use to soothe young Morgan as he got treatment in Birmingham.

Her message said: “Mum reported that speaking Welsh to Morgan helps soothe him. Here’s some that may help.”

Last week, hundreds of people lined the streets to give Morgan his dream day, filled with supercars and a plane ride.

So many cars and supporters showed up that it took almost two hours for the caravan to make its way past the tot’s home.

The young boy was moved to palliative care, before passing away early this morning surrounded by his loved ones.

In a heart wrenching Facebook post, the family announced his death: “Our beautiful boy started on his next great adventure at approximately 5.30am this morning.

“He was peaceful and comfortable with his family around him. Although it was faster than we could ever have anticipated, Morgan was in control at the very end, knowing he was safe and we were with him.

“No more pain now, you fought so hard for so long, you always smiled regardless, you always laughed, you always loved.

“Although I wish this never happened to us I know that we are better people for having known and loved you. You’ve taught us to be be more and love more.”
