Man Utd outcast ‘perplexed’ amid claims he could still have future at club with Ten Hag’s transfer plans up in the air

DEAN HENDERSON is allegedly “perplexed” by reports that he could stay at Manchester United.

The 26-year-old spent last season on loan at Nottingham Forest after a fall-out with the Red Devils.

And now he is being heavily linked with a permanent move to the City Ground after recovering from the thigh surgery that ruled him out for the last few months of the campaign.

Back at Old Trafford, it remains to be seen whether David de Gea will accept a huge pay cut and pen a new contract or depart as a free agent this week.

Inter Milan’s Andre Onana has emerged as a top target for Ten Hag, but the United boss is currently enduring a frustrating summer.

He has been limited to a £100m transfer budget due to FFP rules and is willing to listen to offers for 13 players in order to help bolster that balance.

Therefore he knows that a huge outlay on a goalie will have a significant impact on his desire for a new midfielder and striker.

That has led to some suggestions that England international Henderson could stay until the goalkeeping issues have been solved.

However, the Manchester Evening News says that the former Sheffield United loanee was “perplexed” by those claims and that “he is convinced he will join Forest permanently”.

It adds that the complex situation at United could delay his exit but that Ten Hag could bag a potential £30m from the sale.

Henderson recently claimed that he “p***ed off the Dutch manager” and believes “he is not in line for a comeback” as he revealed he did not want Ten Hag to see him training as he believed the boss would want to keep him.

He told talkSPORT: “I told all the hierarchy: ‘I need to go and play football. I don’t want to be playing second fiddle.’

“And it panned out so I was almost gone before the manager came in.”

Henderson, who kept 13 clean sheets in 29 appearances for United, remains under contract until 2025.
