Former Real Madrid winger turned ROCK STAR in line to become international manager

REAL MADRID ace turned rock singer Alvaro Benito could add a surprising new string to his bow – by becoming Spain Under-19 manager.

The lead singer-guitarist of Spanish punk band Pignoise has been out for football since Real sacked him in 2019 for criticising legends Toni Kroos and Casemiro.

Real sacked Benito as a youth coach in 2019 after he publicly blasted Toni Kroos and Casemiro following a 4-1 Copa del Rey exit on aggregate against Barca

Benito spent eight years at the Bernabeu but quit playing in 2003PA

But The Athletic say the 46-year-old has been approached over replacing Jose Lana for a key position in his country’s international set-up.

Real youth product Benito quit playing in 2003 aged 26, six years after winning LaLiga with Real.

The winger had nine knee operations in four years before bowing out on the pitch with a brief spell at Getafe.

But while trying in vain to rehabilitate, he learned to play the guitar and write songs – forming Pignoise in 2002.

Benito returned to the Bernabeu 13 years later but was axed as boss of Juvenil B – the U-19s reserves – when he blasted two senior players.

Speaking in his other role as a pundit, he slated midfielders Kroos and Casemiro on TV and radio after a 3-0 El Clasico thumping by Barcelona.

He said: “Vinicius is a blessed eruption, has surprised us all.

“The problem is that there are players like Casemiro who shouldn’t play a minute, and Kroos too.”

Now, though, Benito is tipped for a shock return to high-level coaching.

It’s claimed the Spanish FA are weighing up Lana’s future despite only appointing the 48-year-old in January.
