However, one post from City’s Spanish Twitter account had to be deleted after it included a player set to leave the Etihad Stadium.

The upload included an image of captain Ilkay Gundogan in the new shirt, along with the caption: “What a shirt!” and a salivating face emoji.

Gundogan is set to leave the club when his contract expires on Friday, with Mundo Deportivo reporting he has already agreed terms with Barcelona.

The German midfielder will join the Spanish club on a two-year deal with the option of a third and has already had his medical.

However, Barca fans had been concerned that the deleted tweet was a sign the deal was off.

One supporter commented: “Yeah I knew it was too good to be true, fairs.”

Gundogan is currently on holiday and has been pictured with City team-mates Kevin De Bruyne and Nathan Ake.

De Bruyne uploaded a selfie of the trio to his Instagram story, writing: “Found the captain,” and tagging both Gundogan and Ake.

The City skipper leaves the club after helping his side win a historic Treble last season and taking his trophy haul in Manchester to 14.

He departs after seven years in England, having signed from Borussia Dortmund back in the summer of 2016.

In his time with City, Gundogan made 304 appearances, scoring 60 goals and adding 40 assists.
