Man Utd handed HUGE boost in transfer chase for Mason Mount as Chelsea name their price for England midfielder

MASON MOUNT could finally be on his way from Chelsea to Manchester United following a late night breakthrough.

A third bid for the midfielder of £55m was rejected by Blues chairman Todd Boehly on Friday afternoon.

But just a few hours later Boehly told his Old Trafford counterparts that he would be willing to do business if they stump up a further £10m.

It is the first time throughout the whole saga that Chelsea have gone on the front foot in talks and said they are prepared to strike a deal of any sort.

Chelsea then went even further and proposed a face-to-face meeting with Man United to try to thrash out a compromise.

They would accept a payment structure of a £58m down payment with £7m in add-ons.

Three bids have so far been flatly rebuffed and the last of those was believed to be the final take-it-or-leave it offer.

The ball is now firmly in Man United boss Erik ten Hag’s court whether he is happy to stump up the extra cash for a player with just one year left on his contract.

Ten Hag has been chasing Mount for months after talks about a new deal at Stamford Bridge collapsed earlier in the year.

Chelsea have always maintained they would be willing to get round the table once Man United “went north of £60m”.

Mount has made 195 first-team appearances for Chelsea since bursting onto the scene under Frank Lampard.

He played an integral role in his side’s Champions League triumph in 2021, while he has also worn the captain’s armband on sporadic occasions.

The attacking midfielder scored 33 goals for the West Londoners, also laying on 37 assists.
