Who is Jamie Kah?

Jamie Kah is an Australian jockey born on December 7, 1995, in Adelaide, South Australia.

The racing champs parents, John and Karen Kah, are both former speed skaters who represented their nation at the Winter Olympics.

Her love for horses first emerged when she started working at a friend’s stables at age 13.

Three years later she began her riding apprenticeship, before competing in her first race at Streaky Bay in March 2012.

Kah’s first win came just a fortnight later when she triumphed at the Easter Saturday meeting at Clare Valley Racing Club.

It was the start of an incredible streak, as she scooped 40 wins in the space of six months and was the first apprentice to triumph at the Adelaide Jockeys’ Premiership in nearly 20 years.

The racing marvel also won the Premiership for the third time at the end of the 2017 season, before she moved to Melbourne in 2019.

Kah’s relocation paid off, as she went on to win her first Group One race in the Australian Cup at Flemington in March 2019.

The following year, she was incredibly ranked as the leading female jockey in the world – and 77th overall – and continued to climb the ranks over time.

Kah roared to victory with her 1000th winner at the Pakenham racecourse in May 2021, securing her spot as a racing legend.

She had secured another 191 triumphs by March 2023, before she suffered a life-changing set back.

The jockey was horrifically injured during a fall at Flemington racecourse on March 11, 2023, where she smashed into the turf.

Kah, 27, suffered broken bones, a bleed on the brain and memory loss, forcing her to endure a lengthy spell in hospital.

But on June 23, 2023, she announced she was getting back on the saddle as she felt ready to ride again following a grueling recovery.

Why are photos of Jamie Kah trending?

Just one day after she announced her highly anticipated comeback, images of Kah appearing to rack up a line of white powder emerged.

The photos began circulating within the racing industry on WhatsApp showing her posing with pals during a gathering.

In one image, Kah – wearing a grey robe and sporting white nail varnish – can be seen smiling with friends, including greyhound trainer Jacob Biddell.

In another, her padded sleeve and manicured nails can be seen as she appears to rack up a line of a white substance using a plastic card.

According to reports, a small bag containing white powder can also be seen on a marble kitchen top in the images.

After the images surfaced, Kah responded with a furious social media statement saying she was “so disappointed” by the narrative.

She wrote: “I am determined to focus on my health and recovery following my race fall in March which left me with a serious brain injury and being in hospital for three weeks.

“I am working hard to get back to doing what I love, and that is being a passionate and successful jockey.

“I will continue to focus on my physical and mental health and making a full recovery so I can return to racing and be the best person that I can possibly be. I won’t be making any further comment.”

Is Jamie Kah married and does she have children?

Kah is not currently married and does not have any children.

She was engaged to fellow rider Clayton Douglas for a number of years and they shared a property on the Mornington Peninsula.

However, the pair mysteriously split in wake of reports they were living apart while working out their relationship difficulties.

Kah then debuted her new romance with another jockey, Ben Melham, in March 2023.

He stuck by her side throughout her recovery from her dramatic fall, with the Aussie legend saying he went “above and beyond” for her.

The couple were embroiled in a scandal in 2021 when it was claimed they had trashed a luxury Airbnb with “blood and wine.”
