4 dead, 9 injured after tornado hits Matador, Texas, Wednesday evening

MATADOR, Texas – At least four people are dead and nine are injured in Matador, Texas, after a tornado ripped through the town about 8 p.m. Wednesday evening, local officials confirmed.

According to Derek Delgado, Public Information Officer with Lubbock Fire Rescue, everyone is currently accounted for, and search and rescue efforts will resume at first light Thursday morning.

Much of Matador remains without power due to the severe weather that rolled through Texas and the Plains on Wednesday.

A media conference with Lubbock Fire Rescue is scheduled for 7 a.m. CST.

Matador is roughly 60 miles east-northeast of Lubbock in northwestern Texas.
