Meghan Markle and her mom, Doria Ragland, have a bond unlike any other. From their adorable yoga sessions to Meghan’s sweet tributes, it’s pretty clear that Ragland ranks number one in her book. During Meghan’s wedding reception in May 2018, the former “Suits” actor made it a point to praise her mom in her speech, thanking her “not just for being there today, but for being there her entire life.”
While Ragland lives a private life, she recently made an appearance in Meghan and Prince Harry’s new Netflix docuseries, “Harry & Meghan,” which debuted its first installment on Dec. 8. In the series, Meghan reflects on what it was like growing up with her mom, saying, “I grew up in LA and I just remember my mom telling me stories about taking me to the grocery store and women going, ‘Whose child is that?’ She’s like, ‘It’s my child.’ And they’re like, ‘You must be the nanny. Where’s her mom?’ Because I was really fair-skinned and my mom darker.”
Ragland split from Meghan’s father, Thomas Markle, when Meghan was two years old. “We were close to my mom, her grandma. And my sister was close by and my girlfriends were close by, so we had a nice network of women who really helped me raise Meg,” Ragland said in the doc. “She was always so easy to get along with, very congenial making friends. You know, she was a very empathic child, very mature. I remember asking Meg did I feel like her mom and she told me that I felt like her older controlling sister. I never forgot that.”
