GOOGLE is warning users to check their accounts for old photos that could be permanently deleted as part of a big change happening next month.
The tech giant is shutting down a little-known Album Archive that could hold some precious memories you forgot existed.
Google has started emailing users
Google has sent out an alert email to users, informing them they have until July 19.
After that date they’ll be gone for good.
“You’re receiving this email because you’ve viewed Album Archive recently or you may have some content that is visible in Album Archive,” the firm says.
“Starting on 19 July 2023, Album Archive will no longer be available.
“We recommend that you use Google Takeout to download a copy of your Album Archive data before then.”
The hidden folder is mostly home to Google Hangouts data, as well as content from Blogger and Picassa.
But it can also be home to some thumbnail photos and album comments or likes.
You might find background images you uploaded for Gmail too.
It’s well worth checking for any long forgotten memories before it’s too late.
You can find out if you have any pictures stored on it by visiting get.google.com/albumarchive.
Users hit out at Google on social media, saying the they’re confused about the messaging.
“i love it when i get emails from google telling me they’re discontinuing a service i had no idea existed,” one said on Twitter.
“RIP google album archive,” another commented.
“Unfortunately, you will not be missed because I did not know you existed.”
