Quincy Jones rushed to hospital after suffering medical emergency

Quincy Jones, the mastermind behind Michael Jackson’s Thriller, has been taken to the hospital overnight after suffering a medical emergency.

The multi-Grammy Award winner, 90, was said to have had a “bad reaction to some food he ate,” a representative of his told TMZ.

“Out of an abundance of caution he called 911 for help,” the spokesperson added.

According to Page Six, paramedics were called to Jones’ Los Angeles home late Saturday afternoon (local time) and the composer was subsequently transported to the emergency room.

The music producer’s representative also noted that he never lost consciousness and was in “great spirits”.

Jones was then given the all-clear by doctors and was soon released from his short hospital stint.

Quincy Jones is most famously known as the producer of Michael Jackson’s all-time best-selling record, Thriller. The producer has also worked on records with the likes of Frank Sinatra, Aretha Franklin, and Rufus & Chaka Khan. 

Jones, who is also father to actress Rashida Jones, produced the hit television sitcom, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, which launched the career of Will Smith.

This is not the first time the 28-time Grammy award winner has endured a health scare.

In 1974, Jones suffered a life-threatening brain aneurysm which required two severe operations and as a result, left him with six steel pins in his head.

“I actually had two brain aneurysms,” Jones recalled in a 2018 documentary titled, Quincy.

“So I guess I would classify as having some experience with trauma to the brain. Also, my mother suffered from mental illness,” he added.

Jones was also rushed to hospital back in 2015 citing chest pains and shortness of breath whilst in his Bel-Air home.

At the time, a representative for Jones told Page Six, “Quincy is fine. He had some shortness of breath and in an abundance of caution he went in for observation. He is fine though.”
