They are demanding £70million for the England midfielder but United are confident they can reach an agreement, claims Fabrizio Romano.
Mount looks set to leave Chelsea this summer after failing to reach an agreement over a new contract.
The 24-year-old is entering the final year of his deal and his boyhood club risk losing him on a free in 12 months time.
He was seen looking emotional at the end of Chelsea’s final game of last season, fuelling speculation he is set for a transfer.
Mount won the Champions League two years ago but has just come off the back of a poor season.
He played 35 times, scoring just three goals in all competitions last term as Chelsea finished in 12th place.
Mount could be one of several players to leave West London this summer as chief Todd Boehly plans to trim his bloated squad.
The likes of N’Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic are both reportedly nearing moves to Al-Ittihad and Manchester City respectively.

As for Man Utd, they are also planning on a busy summer of additions as they look to also add a striker to the squad.
Tottenham’s Harry Kane and Benfica’s Goncalo Ramos are options.
They are also looking to strengthen further in midfield with Mount’s best mate Declan Rice linked with the club.
However, Arsenal and Man City appear to leading the race.
