Arsenal and Real Madrid transfer blow as European giants enter race for Chelsea star Kai Havertz

BAYERN MUNICH are attempting to hijack Arsenal’s transfer move for Chelsea’s Kai Havertz.

We reported yesterday how Gunners boss Mikel Arteta, who discovered his team’s 2023/24 Premier League fixture list this week, is wasting no time in trying to bolster his squad.

With the added schedule of a return to the Champions League, the Spaniard wants to bring in a number of reinforcements this summer after last term’s title collapse.

They are looking to pay a club record £90m to bring in West Ham midfielder Declan Rice.

We reported earlier this week how Chelsea’s German international forward has also emerged as a shock target.

Chelsea owner Todd Boehly is not willing to let him go cheaply with Real Madrid also in the running for his signature.

The Blues have slapped a £70m price tag on Havertz, who joined three years ago for around £62m.

Arsenal want to pay a lot less, and they hoped the fact that Real Madrid are not willing to pay over £50m will help them secure him for a reduced fee.

However, despite it emerging that Havertz was “very close to Arsenal” on Friday, a potential spanner has been thrown in the works.

The Daily Mail have claimed that Bayern Munich “have expressed late interest” in signing him.

Havertz featured 47 times last season, scoring nine goals.

The former Leverkusen ace is a fan favourite in West London due to his Champions League clinching striker against Manchester City in 2021.

And Havertz remains under contract until 2025 at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea are believed to be open to offering Havertz a new deal, but he would have to take a cut from his £310,000-a-week.
