Parents of Irish girl, 3, with just four months to live issue heartbreaking plea to help enjoy ‘precious’ time left

THE parents of an Irish girl who has just four months left to live have issued an appeal to help achieve her final wishes.

Little Lucy Croghan, 3, was diagnosed with stage 4 Wilms tumour just days before Christmas last year.

Despite undergoing chemotherapy at Crumlin children’s hospital in Dublin, Lucy’s parents were this week told that her condition has significantly declined.

Mum and dad, Zara and Sean, said they had hoped Lucy would make it to Christmas, but now her time has been reduced to around three or four months.

The devoted parents, who also have a baby girl Amy, have been fundraising to support their family and allow their precious daughter to experience her last few adventures.

In a recent update, the parents said they have a “heavy heart”.

They said: “Over the past few weeks we have seen Lucy decline a bit where she gets tired very quickly and doesn’t have much energy.. we requested a ct scan which she had last Friday 8th June and then had to wait until Tuesday the 13th to get the results.

“They are as follows, Lucy’s lung capacity is down to 60 per cent due to her left lung very nearly fully covered with the lumps now and it’s so scary to see how much it has progressed in the last 3 months since the last scan.

“We have been told that she won’t make it to Christmas now and now our time with Lucy has been reduced to about 3 to 4 months.

“Now is the time we have to finish our last few adventures and just chill with our princess xx And we have heard that Christmas is coming early this year x”.

Family friend Sarah Dowd, who organised the fundraiser, explained how they hope to bring Christmas to Lucy.

In a post she said: “Zara and Sean have been making the last couple of months time for memories.

“As you can see we were all hoping for some sort of miracle, but instead are faced with less time than we thought.

“Santa will visiting Lucy in August we hope in her own winter wonderland. She is busy making an amazon wishlist to be published at later date. But right now continue to keep our little lady in your thoughts.!”

In a previous post, Sarah explained how the funds would help the family.

She said: “Its been a lot for this family to go through..and although in an ideal world we would like to think that her father can take of work and forget about bills (that have increased due to travel, hospital stays etc) in a bid to spend precious time with his family and supporting his wife this is sadly not the case.

“So whatever you maybe able to spare would be gratefully received to help this family focus on being just that a family in this tragic time in their lives and to help slightly ease the horrible journey they are to embark on for the foreseeable future “

The Go Fund Me has already raised €36,205, with a target of €50,000.
