Kylian Mbappe claims Lionel Messi ‘didn’t get the respect he deserved in France’ while at PSG

KYLIAN MBAPPE has slammed Paris Saint-Germain fans claiming Lionel Messi “didn’t get the respect he deserved”.

World Cup-winner Messi, 35, quit the French giants this summer to move to the MLS with Inter Miami.

He was roundly booed by fans in his final home game.

Messi fired a parting shot at the club admitting he was “so unhappy” in his two-year stay.

And former PSG team-mate Mbappe has come out swinging for the Argentine legend.

Mbappe, who himself is at odds with his employers after revealing his bombshell exit plans this week, told AFP: “Messi gone? It’s bad news because now needs to be replaced.

“He’s one of greatest player in the history of football.

“It’s never good news when someone like Messi leaves.

“I don’t quite understand why so many people were so relieved that he was gone.

“He didn’t get the respect he deserved in France.”

News broke on Monday that Mbappe, 24, has no intention of staying in the French capital beyond his current deal, which expires at the end of next season.

PSG are expected to be cash in this summer, if they cannot convince him to sign, to avoid losing their £162million star for free.

Real Madrid and Manchester United have been touted as his most likely destinations.

And Mbappe opened up on his desire to leave.

He added: “For a player like me, the goal is to win everything.

“And we knew that at PSG there were shortcomings that sooner or later we were going to end up paying for.

“I didn’t say I wanted to be sold to Real Madrid or want to leave, but only that I won’t activate the option on the extra year.

“With PSG, there has never been any talk of a renewal.”
