People are only just realising the right way protect their car’s paintwork this summer – it could save you over £3,000

CAR experts have revealed the right way to protect your vehicle’s paintwork this summer – and it could save you over £3,000.

Abby Nuttall of Car Lease Special Offers laid out some simple steps that motorists can follow to keep their beloved machines in tip-top condition.

She made four key recommendations to make sure the paintwork stays as good as new.

First of all, Abby advised wiping away any bird droppings, the scourge of body kits worldwide, instantly.

The motoring writer said: “Bird droppings are acidic and chip away at your paint, leaving stains.

“If you leave the droppings for a long period of time, they could strip the paint entirely.”

The best way to get rid of them is to wipe them off with a damp cloth before they dry out.

Tougher stains can be removed with watered-down white vinegar.

This can save you up to £2,400, the price of a full respray.

The second tip, which we suspect is linked to the first, is to park away from trees when possible.

As you might imagine this is because of birds nesting in the branches above, as well as leaves, sap and general debris from the trees themselves.

If you do have to park up under a tree for an extended period, Abby recommends keeping your car covered where possible.

Covers are available online for around £20, but could save £1,000 in repair costs.

On the other hand, you should avoid parking in direct sunlight as it can cause your paintwork to fade and dry out stains, making them harder to remove.

Again, a cover can mitigate this or parking in a garage is a great option.

Finally, Abby advised regularly washing your motor to keep it at its best.

Washing at least once a month, either professionally or by hand with diluted white vinegar or soapy water should do the trick.

It comes after a car safety expert revealed what drivers need to know to avoid a hefty fine this summer.
