Classic Ford Fiesta XR2 in storage for past seven years is up at auction and set to fetch an eye-watering price

A STUNNING Ford Fiesta XR2 that has been dry stored for the past seven years is up for sale at auction, and could go for a HUGE price.

The iconic 1987 XR2, finished in Mercury Grey paintwork, has around 93k miles on the clock.

With its fourth owner for the past nine years, the sporty Fiesta had a bodywork refurbishment around seven years ago, and has reportedly been dry-stored ever since.

Under the bonnet is a 1.6-litre petrol engine with 96bhp providing enough shove to keep things entertaining on the road.

The XR2 looks fantastic in grey and has classic red pinstripes along the side with black wheelarches and exterior trim – although the real highlight are the famous 13-inch ‘Pepperpot’ alloy wheels.

Inside is a real 80s treat, too, with the original Ford-branded radio-cassette player, wind-down front windows, and a pop-up sunroof.

As a bonus, the XR2 comes with its original owner’s manuals and service book, along with its registration documents and a recent maintenance invoice.

And, bidders will be reassured by the fact that the most recent MOT test was carried out in March 2023, which resulted in a first-time pass with no advisories.

Collecting Cars who are handling the sale, said: “This is a stylish example of the increasingly rare Ford Fiesta XR2, which is said to remain highly original and unmodified.

“Benefitting from a bodywork refurbishment around seven years ago, it would make a natural addition to a collection of fast Fords as well as a characterful and communicative weekend toy for any enthusiast.”

The online auction ends on Thursday 15th June.
