What is the Kerfus robot on TikTok and where does it come from?

KERFUS whipped up a frenzy on TikTok late last year simply for being cute – but it’s just a glorified kiosk, so what’s all the fuss about?

The supermarket robot was available in only two locations, and yet, it has grown so popular people now cosplay as the cat-bot.

What is the Kerfus robot on TikTok?

Kerfus is a mascot that was introduced to French supermarket chain Carrefour in Poland last year.

It resembles a cat, and makes happy, sad and winky faces at people who interact with it. It speaks in Polish and meows too.

The company behind the cat-bot known as Kerfus is called Pudu Robotics, a Shenzen-based company.

Many found the robot cute and wholesome, which saw it fly to fame on TikTok after becoming a muse for fan art and so-called memes (viral internet jokes told in pictures).

Now, Kerfus has its own official TikTok page with over 114,000 followers.

Where does Kerfus come from?

Kerfus comes from Warsaw, Poland, and was designed as an autonomous delivery robot to distribute snacks, like crisps and drinks.

The robot was initially an advertisement campaign as part of a collaboration between Carrefour and PepsiCo, the owner of Pepsi in just two Warsaw stores.

But since becoming a viral phenomenon on the internet, Carrefour organised a Kerfus tour across Poland, appearing in its stores in around 20 cities across the country.

The company also has released a limited series of clothing with Kerfus’ face on them that’s available at its stores, which includes school backpacks.

The merchandise is aimed at its fanbase which is primarily children.

What is the Kerfus robot’s real name?

The robot’s actual model name is BellaBot.

These can be found around the world in restaurants and even medical facilities as an automated helper-outer.
