Mason Mount ‘significantly underpaid for almost three years’ as Chelsea star’s salary revealed

MASON MOUNT has reportedly been “significantly underpaid” for almost three years.

The Chelsea star looks increasingly likely to depart this summer when he enters the final year of his contract.

Mount wants parity with teammates like Reece James, who earn £250,000-a-week at Stamford Bridge.

And the Athletic has now revealed Mount’s current wage, claiming he has been “significantly underpaid” in comparison with teammates.

The midfielder penned the deal in 2019 after returning from a loan spell at Vitesse Arnhem.

The five-year contract saw Mount’s wages rise to less than £100k a week.

And he has been left unhappy that Chelsea showed little interest in boosting his pay despite becoming a key player under Frank Lampard, Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter.

Incoming new boss Mauricio Pochettino is now hoping Chelsea can strike an 11th hour agreement with Mount.

But it appears an exit is the most probably outcome for the Cobham academy product.

Manchester United are looking to steal a march on rivals by launching a £55million bid at the end of the season.

Erik ten Hag is a huge fan of Mount and would like to wrap up a deal as soon as possible.

Arsenal are also interested, but their priority is West Ham captain Declan Rice.

Fellow suitors Liverpool are also focused on landing Brighton’s Alexis Mac Allister first.

And Mount himself is leaning towards Old Trafford should an agreement be found.

But United are likely to need more money, with Todd Boehly holding out for over £80m.

He has no intention of keeping players with expiring contracts.

But on the other hand, Chelsea are desperate to offload as many players as possible by June 30th in order to balance their books after this season’s £600m splurge.
