But are any budget products actually any good? And if so, are they as good as their expensive counterparts?

The short answer to this is yes, according to a skin expert.

“Expensive products do not offer more than cheaper brands,”  medical and cosmetic doctor, Dr Ewoma Ukeleghe, tells The Sun.

“They invest a ton on marketing and a ton on packaging, but you really don’t have to spend a ton on your skincare routine to get results.

“Cheaper brands often perform just as good or better than expensive ones,” she explains.

When it comes to picking the right skincare, Dr Ewoma says it’s all about the ingredients on the packet.

Here are the two ingredients you should always look out for:

Niacinamide

Niacinamide is a form of vitamin B3, which your body needs to maintain healthy-looking skin.

“It’s a great ingredient for nourishing and supporting the skin barrier,” Dr Ewoma says.

In studies, the chemical has shown to be effective at treating both acne and eczema.

There’s also evidence that niacinamide can reduce wrinkles and reduce hyperpigmentation.

Glycerin

Move over hyaluronic acid, there’s a new moisturising product in town.

Unlike hyaluronic acid, which just locks in moisture, glycerin attracts water, stimulates the skin cells to promote healthier and promotes younger looking skin, the expert says.

Glycerin is also very effective on rough spots and calluses.

It works by signally your superficial skin cells to mature more rapidly, meaning you shed dead skin at a faster rate.

Make sure you moisturiser contains the good stuff by checking the label.
