People are shocked to learn that airlines are weighing passengers at check in

PEOPLE were shocked after seeing video footage of people being weighed before they had to get on their flight.

Most passengers have to make sure their luggage isn’t over a certain weight, but few people think their own weight will stop them boarding a flight.

However, that was the case for people on a recent flight in America, where they were filmed getting on some scales before being permitted to fly.

Tiktoker Lillian Wessel (@lilwessel) filmed the events at an airport, as she waited to get on board.

She shared the footage online and explained that it was because they were using a particularly small aircraft, so weight load was more important than ever.

She said: “It’s a tiny plane so they needed our weight to take off for safety reasons.”

The video has been seen more than 1.6million times since she posted it, with other people shocked by what they’d seen.

One wrote: “That’s not ok.”

Another said: “Why would they need her weight…? or is this a US thingy?”

However, others have come into contact with the airport scales before.

One said: “They kicked a very heavy man off my plane once and he cried. Felt bad but it was a 16 seater. No way he was flying.”

Another added: “Flying home from the Philippines and they weighed me…I have never been so embarrassed in my life.”

They weren’t the only passengers to get into trouble with their weight recently.

A teenager tried to use a clever Tiktok hack to get extra luggage onto an aeroplane, but ended up being caught out by the airline.

Adriana Ocampo tried to dodge an airline’s baggage charge by wearing almost six kilos of clothing – but got fined anyway.

The passenger piled on 15 garments, including t-shirts, jackets, jumpers and trousers after realising her carry-on luggage exceeded the maximum weight limit of seven kilos.

Despite wearing loads of extra clothing, the comically-oversized teen conceded defeat and claim to have stumped up a $65 (£35) fine for oversized baggage.
