A CLASSIC 60s Ford Cortina is up for sale at auction – and it includes some radical changes to the original car.

This particular Ford Cortina was registered in 1965, but was completely rebuilt in 2019.

Hampson Auctions explained that its original “Kent” four-cylinder engine was replaced by a reconditioned 4.6-litre Rover V8.

But the current owner also upgraded: Mega Squirt fuel injection, EDIS ignition system, Cherry Bomb exhausts, five-speed Ford Sierra gearbox and the Moto-Lita wood-rim steering wheel.

According to the auction house, the sporty car has covered 928 miles since it was completely rebuilt five years ago.

The vendor says that the engine, transmission, bodywork, paintwork and upholstery are in “excellent” condition and is offering the car with its original buff log and a large selection of invoices.

Hampson Auctions revealed: “With few Cortinas still in everyday use, it’s hard to believe that the model was by far Britain’s best-selling car throughout the 1970s.

“Available in two and four-door saloon and estate versions, the model dominated our roads. Five generations were produced between 1962 and 1982, each of which notched up over a million sales.

“At introduction, the car was powered by a 1193cc three-bearing version of the four-cylinder OHV ‘Kent’ engine, though the option of a five-bearing 1500cc unit followed within months.”

The Hampson Auctions event takes place on May 13.

This comes after a Classic Ford Sierra RS Cosworth kept by the same owner for the past 35 years is now up for auction – and set to go for a fortune.

Plus, twelve stunning classic Ferraris from a private collection are up for auction and set to go for MILLIONS.
