I can’t even walk on my own street because of ‘selfish’ drivers parking on the pavement – it needs to be BANNED

A PEDESTRIAN has blasted “selfish” drivers who park on the pavement.

The frustrated resident said she’s unable to walk down her own street in Norwich, Norfolk, after cars took up most of the space.

The unnamed local took to Twitter to show the pavement lined with cars, effectively cutting the width of the path in half.

The little space left was largely taken up by blue wheelie bins.

She captioned the video: “Went for a walk today – or tried to.”

The fuming walker then said that the “stretch of public amenity land” in the “highly desirable” area had been “donated” to car owners.

The clip prompted an angry reaction in the comments section, with several people suggesting ways to punish drivers for their irritating parking.

One person wrote: “Pavement parking needs banning UK-wide… As a wheelchair user I can’t get about.”

Another chimed in: “I had to yell at a guy who parked just in front of me as I was walking on the sidewalk two days ago.”

Meanwhile a third posted a photo of their own road showing a similar issue.

They added: “It’s a quiet road, not a lot of traffic, but I don’t see why people should have to walk on the road due to selfish parking.”

The original post was even shared by BBC Radio 2 host Jeremy Vine, who asked: “What’s the solution to this?”

It has now been viewed nearly 300,000 times.

Pavement parking is currently legal outside of London.

But Highway Code rule 244 says that drivers “must not park partially or wholly on the pavement in London and should not do so elsewhere unless signs permit it.”

It comes after residents of a Peak District village said that drivers were like a plague of locusts, ruining the area with roadside parking.

Similarly, one man slammed car owners for parking just inches from his front door, despite there being a car park down the road.

And it’s not only parking that causes issues.

One motorist was also branded “selfish” for making a little-known mistake on the motorway last year.
