Top ten most hated driving habits, and who really has the worst road rage

The UK’s most hated driving habits have been revealed, along with who really has the worst road rage – men or women

A new survey has asked Brits what annoys them the most while driving, with some surprising results.

Passengers who constantly tell the driver what to do can be annoying and sometimes dangerousGetty

Children and dogs that are loose in cars are noted as particularly irritating, while mums “on the school run” were a demographic highlighted by one survey respondent.

Backseat drivers have also been found to drive many of us around the bend.

Other unwelcome passengers include husbands that fiddle with the radio and parents who complain from the passenger seat.

One driver surveyed thinks his wife is especially annoying, but has specified “that’s not just when driving.”

Meanwhile, those who like to drive with their elbow out of the window when it’s warm outside may want to think again.

Though it might feel cool and comfortable, other drivers think it’s incredibly annoying.

Those who drive an Audi or BMW shouldn’t be surprised by sour faces in other vehicles either, as drivers of these makes were mentioned numerous times within the research carried out by Go.Compare

Who’s the most irritated?

The survey found that male drivers are generally more irritated than females, aside from the matter of speeding, where 43% of women find it annoying compared to 38% of men.

But, littering and obstructing traffic for a chat is considerably more annoying to men.

However, it seems that everyone is equally perturbed by motorists who don’t pull over for the emergency services (43% of men and around 42% of women).

Ryan Fulthorpe, car insurance expert at Go.Compare, said: “It’s important to understand the distinctions between mild irritations and dangerous driving.

“Forgetting to say thank you or queue jumping are annoying, of course, but habits like tailgating and middle-lane driving are considered careless driving and could land you with a fine, as well as points on your licence.”
