But the car parked directly in front of the Tesla Model Y escaped without a scratch.
The terrific event took place last April 27 in Zhubei, Taiwan.
Apparently, the car was brand new – and the owner had driven it only five times before it was pulled into the sinkhole.
When the car was rescued from the hole, it had significant damage on its left side.
This was the sixth incident of sinkholes opening up in the area, prompting Hsinchu County Magistrate Yang Wen-ke to call for a comprehensive investigation.
The owner of the Tesla was attending an educational training session at a nearby hotel when the incident occurred, Dimsum Daily reports.
He was unaware of the situation until his wife saw the pictures of the incident online and immediately contacted him.
People were quick to comment on Twitter.
One joked: “This just proves how unsafe EVs are – the nickel in their batteries is attracted to the Earth’s magnetic core and being pulled underground as a result.”
Another said: “Wow. That’s crazy.”
A third pointed out: “Underground parking taking to the next level.”
Plus, an ev expert revealed the top five things he wishes he had known before buying a Tesla Model 3.
