Well, the answer is yes, a home should be adjusted and furniture should be changed in anticipation of your little ones arrival.

First aiders from Tiny Hearts Education Instagram have warned parents of some common furniture mistakes which could prove deadly.

1. Secure furniture

Children like to grab onto things and climb, making big pieces of furniture major hazard.

In the distressing video, shared by the first aid experts on Instagram, two children can be seen pulling on some drawers until they fall on top of them.

According to the experts “all little ones in these videos are completely fine now” but urge parents to ensure all heavy furniture should be well secured to walls.

One way of attaching furniture to walls is by using restraints called anchoring kits. These usually consist of two brackets tethered by a strap or cable.

A ten pack of strips can be purchased on Amazon for under £10.

2. Don’t put any heavy items on top of shelves

You should also avoid putting any heavy items on top of furniture.

In the same video, a dummy child – representing a real tot – can be seen climbing on some drawers, on which sits a unsecured TV.

Within a few seconds the set of drawers along with the TV fall on the dummy, crushing it.

The experts urge parents to secure TV’s to the wall.

3. Put locking devices on all drawers

At first glance, you may think the only danger of a drawer is what lies inside. However, drawers and the dressers that hold them have many risks.

Your child could potentially access dangerous objects, jam there fingers or indeed pull the entire drawer or free-standing dresser on themselves.

Latch your drawers firming shut so they’re too hard for your child to open. You can use adjustable safety locks, or even magnetic locks – both which can be found on Amazon for under £10.
