Horse beaten in ‘disgraceful’ circumstances at Chelmsford makes amends emphatically four days on

It was back to winning ways for Concorde in dominant fashion at Pontefract on Monday.

Which begs the question, how on earth did he finish second five days ago.

Concorde was beaten in staggering fashion at Chelmsford on Saturday, with a motionless Pat Cosgrave appearing to ease up in the final strides when failing to see My Roxanne nipping up his inside.

The experienced rider looked crestfallen when giving a debrief to Racing TV in the aftermath and was subsequently banned for 30 days.

A total of £12,000 was matched on the horse at the minimum price of 1.01 in-running on the Betfair Exchange, while the horse’s owners missed out on more than £2,000 as a result of the nose defeat.

The George Boughey-trained three-year-old was back in action today and his new partner Ben Curtis left nothing to chance, pushing him out to the line to score by ten easy lengths.

Some of that missed prize money was recouped with his effortless victory, with neither horse or jockey hard pressed to collect the £3,140 top prize.

He’s clearly a very long way ahead of the handicapper, who has plenty of catching up to do, and punters were able to see the funny side.

One said: “now that’s how you ride a 1-5 shot”, while another joked that he’d “won too far”.

Concorde went off even shorter today at odds of 2-15 and unsurprisingly, the Racing Post in-running comments quoted him as winning ‘easily’.

Boughey has him entered at Haydock on Saturday and Wetherby on Sunday, and it would be a surprise if he didn’t turn up at one of those venues.
