AN AIRPORT security expert has revealed which clothes passengers should never wear if they don’t want to get held up.
Passing through the security gates on the way to departures is a necessary but time consuming part of air travel.

However, there are ways passengers can speed up the process, one of which is a strategic outfit.
Former transportation security officer Jasmain Washington explained which clothes people should avoid, in order to not get snagged at the airport security gates.
She told HuffPost: “Don’t wear baggy, extremely tight or bedazzled/sparkly clothing. [These types of clothes] alert the machine and will get you searched every time, which will cause you and others delay in the line.”
Footwear is also an important part of any airport outfit for people looking to get through security without a hitch, with most airports now requesting that passengers remove their shoes.
Jasmain recommends something that slides on and off easily, but also insists passengers wear socks.
She continued: “Slides/flats/Crocs are my favourite travel shoes because they are easy to slip on and off [and allow] me to move through security quicker.
“Wear socks because you’re going to have to take your shoes off and wearing socks allows you to take your shoes off beforehand to create a faster line flow.”
There are other reasons why you should wear socks at the airport as well.
Rami Calis, DPM, a podiatry instructor at Atlanta’s Emory University, told WebMD: “The floor is often dirty where all those people walk through security. And it doesn’t get any sun.
“I haven’t taken any samples from these areas, but if we do I bet we’ll find 101 different things.”
That claim has also been backed up by a study conducted in Finland, which found security to be the dirtiest place in the airport.
This is because it is “almost inevitable” that every passenger will have to go through security on their way from the entrance to their plane.
Podiatrist Ebonie Vincent also warned against getting your toes out while travelling.
She told the Washington Post: “You could pick up fungus, not to mention the millions of germs and bacteria that you could transfer to carpets, inside hotel rooms or homes and cars, which serves as a danger to other people.”
