Man Utd set for defensive firesale with ‘FOUR defenders facing axe after opening transfer talks over Jeremie Frimpong’

MANCHESTER UNITED have allegedly held talks with Bayer Leverkusen star Jeremie Frimpong as they plan for a fire sale of defenders.

The 22-year-old right-back has caught the eye of the Red Devils with Erik ten Hag searching for someone to fill that position.

According to Manchester Evening News, United were prepared to listen to offers for Aaron Wan-Bissaka when the Dutch boss arrived last summer but nothing concrete materialised.

Team-mate Diogo Dalot, who will become a free agent at the end of next season, is also being chased by a host of clubs such as Juventus, Barcelona, Athletico Madrid, and AC Milan.

And this fresh report states that the pair could both be offloaded in the summer window as Ten Hag “prepares to sell at least three full-backs”.

Those potential exits will not be the only ones from United’s backline.

Outcasted Phil Jones is departing when his contract expires in June, while we also revealed that club captain Harry Maguire, who has been benched for the majority of the campaign, is a shock £50m target for French giants Paris Saint-Germain.

The club are also booking to offload fellow defenders Eric Bailly, Alex Telles and Brandon Williams.

Now it seems that Ten Hag is already lining-up replacements as he attempts to tempt Frimpong back to Manchester.

He came through the ranks across town in the academy of neighbours City before heading to Celtic in 2019.

The ace then moved to Leverkusen two years ago and has since broken into the Dutch national side and was part of their World Cup squad.

As well as bolstering his defence, Ten Hag is desperate for a new striker with Tottenham’s Harry Kane and Napoli’s Victor Osimhen his top targets.
