The stunning hoard of vehicles belongs to a recluse businessman Ad Palmen and was discovered in two barns in the city of Dordrecht in the Netherlands.

The elderly man who owned motor accessory businesses built up his collection over the course of 40 years, the Times report.

The beautiful cars were collecting dust after Palmen, 82, was moved to a care home last year following a dementia diagnosis.

Still, in prime mechanical condition, the amazing fleet of cars includes a 1955 Lancia Aurelia B24S Spider America worth over £600,000 and a 1953 Mercedes W188 300S Roadster worth £440,000.

Carlo te Lintelo, of the Gallery Aaldering in Brummen, which will auction the collection from May 19, said no one would ever know how or why Palmen obtained the cars because he was now too ill to speak.

“There isn’t any family. It’s a sad story. He was on his own. He didn’t have relatives and a very small group of friends.

“We know very little about him or why he collected the cars over four decades.

“We can’t speak to him. We would love to ask him. We can’t ask, sadly.

“It will always be a mystery and that is the romantic part. There is a lot that will remain unknown.”

Nico Aaldering, the auctioneer added: “It is unlikely that anyone will ever see a collection of this calibre and in this condition again in their lifetime.”

Last month the incredible car collection featuring classic Mustang and Camaro models was revealed.

It’s believed that the owner of this car collection won the lottery Jackpot in 1985.
