More than 1 in 5 Brits planning Grand National punt as just 2% see Aintree day out as value for money

IT’S the race that captivates the world and this Saturday’s Grand National from Aintree will be no different.

With 40 runners set to line up for the spectacle, an incredible 600 million people are expected to tune in across 140 countries, with approximately £250million staked.

Closer to home, it’s an event that will be discussed across many platforms for a variety of reasons.

And it captures the imagination of many, with a recent OLBG survey showing more than one in five Brits are planning a punt on the big one (22%).

That figure was slightly larger in men, with 26% advising they would definitely have a bet.

It wasn’t quite as popular with women though, with 70% of those asked saying they WOULDN’T back a runner.

In total, 18% will take part with 12% still unsure, with six out of ten males questioned advising they weren’t having a bet.
