After overtaking around 20 cars, the rider moves across and calmly filters into the left lane – checking the bike’s mirrors to make sure it was safe to do so.
Although it is a legal manoeuvre in the UK, car drivers often become annoyed or even angry at motorbike filtering, and it can sometimes cause arguments on the road.
However, there are clear laws around when you can and can’t filter.
There are places where you definitely can’t filter legally, such as crossing a solid white line, for example.
And while you can filter past traffic queuing at a crossing, you can’t pass the lead vehicle until it has passed the crossing.
Checking the Highway Code, under Rules for Motorcyclists, Rule 88 states: ” You should be aware of what is behind and to the sides before manoeuvring. Look behind you; use mirrors if they are fitted.
“When in traffic queues, look out for pedestrians crossing between vehicles and vehicles emerging from junctions or changing lanes.
“Position yourself so that drivers in front can see you in their mirrors. Additionally, when filtering in slow-moving traffic, take care and keep your speed low.”
The video uploaded to TikTok by @arthurdino has had 2,000 views.
And the poster titled the video: “Do you agree filtering is legal on a motorbike?”
Users on social media were quick to comment.
One said: “Also legal if you have an Audi.”
Another said: “No problem, as long as you don’t interfere with anyone else’s driving or cause them to move because of your bad riding or judgement.”
While a third pointed out: “Illegal to filter on zigzags.”
This comes after a video emerged showing a driver knocking off a moped rider at a set of traffic lights.
Plus, a video shows the moment a motorcyclist smashes into a car as it changes lane – but it has got people talking as to who is in the right.
