And Sophie Liard has revealed a clever folding trick that she uses for days out at the beach that means she doesn’t even need to take a bag with her.
Also known as The Folding Lady, Sophie shared a video on Tiktok showing how she folds a towel up into a pouch in which she is able to pack a swimming costume, a spare top, a book, sun cream and sunglasses.
Her method involves first folding the towel in half, before folding the sides into the centre.
Sophie then lifts the top third over the centre and tucks the bottom third in behind the previous fold, making a perfect little pouch.
She then inserts her beach clothes and other items into the makeshift carry case she’s created, showing that she doesn’t need her bag.
She said the folding idea was “in case you forget your beach bag“.
The video has been watched more than 27,000 times since it was shared.
It’s not Sophie’s only tip for packing for holidays either, with the writer also previously revealing how she folds her clothes to make the most of the space in her bag.
She waded in on the debate between folding and rolling clothes in suitcases, with people on each side convinced their method is the best.
However, instead of putting an end to the debate, she said they were both right.
Sophie recommends using a mixture of both techniques to really get the most out of luggage space.
She said: “There is not much in it when it comes to folding versus rolling – trust me, we tested it at The Folding Lady HQ.
“A mixture works well, depending on the material of the clothing and what is actually going in the suitcase.”
The approach recommended by Sophie is to fold specific clothes and roll others, in order to fit them nicely into a suitcase.
She advises: “As a general rule of thumb we’d advise folding the following items; blazers, t-shirts, underwear, jackets, anything delicate or with embellishment and rolling the following; thicker knits, dresses, tights.”
The hybrid packing and rolling approach is one supported by packing and tidying expert Marie Kondo, who revealed how she makes the most of space in her suitcase.
Marie recommends rolling thinner fabrics instead of folding them, as it will both reduce creases and wrinkles, while also helping to get them into a smaller package for your bag.
Meanwhile, this handy item can help people fit more into their suitcase.
And here are 11 other space saving techniques that can help you make the most of the space in your case.
