Jennifer Saunders

After soaring to fame in the ’80s, Saunders went on to become a multi-award-winning actress, comedian, singer and screenwriter.

She loaned her voice to the Fairy Godmother in Shrek 2 (2004) as well as Miss Nana Noodleman in the 2016 animated film Sing, reprising the role five years later in Sing 2.

The Lincolnshire-born starlet dabbled with theatre, appearing in the production of Lady Windermere’s Fan as The Duchess of Berwick in 2018.

Her latest work has been in the movie Allelujah alongside Judi Dench and David Bradley.

Jennifer married Ade Edmondson in 1985 and they went on to have three children together.

Dame Joanna portrayed Drunken Patsy Stone in the series.

Although her role in the sitcom is regarded as one of the greatest female comic performances ever, Joanna is best known for playing Purdey in the TV series The New Avengers.

She has since gone on to present several travel shows such as Joanna Lumley’s Postcards, as well as making trips to India and Japan.

In 2017 she took over from Stephen Fry to present the 71st British Academy Film Awards.

The actress has one son with her first husband Jeremy Lloyd who was briefly married to in 1970. 

Joanna married her second husband Stephen Barlow in 1986.

Jane Horrocks

Jane Horrocks played Bubble and Katy Grin on Ab Fab but away from the hit show, she is known for her starring role in Little Voice.

She went on to receive a Bafta nomination for her role as Laura Hoff in the film version released in 1998.

As well as being an actor on screen, Jane is a successful voice actor, appearing in 12 animated films including Arthur Christmas, Christmas Carole: The Movie and Chicken Run

She separated from her partner Nick Vivian with whom she shares two children.

June Whitfield

June Whitfield passed away aged 93 in 2018

June Whitfield made a name for herself decades before she took on the role of Edina Monsoon’s mother in Ab Fab.

The actress was awarded OBE, CBE and in 2017 was awarded the DBE for her services to drama and entertainment.

 According to her IMDB page, she has also appeared in three episodes of EastEnders playing Sister Rith back in 2015.

She was married to surveyor Timothy Aitchison up until his death in 2001.

The pair share one daughter together.

Whitfield sadly died in December 2018 aged 93 after having moved into a care home the year prior.

Julia Sawalha

Julia Sawalha played Saffron ‘Saffy’ Monsoon in sitcom, a role which remains her most iconic to date.

She also starred in Jonathan Creek from 2001 to 2004, in the BBC One drama series Remember Me and in the BBC drama Lark Rise to Candleford.

Julia also appeared in the Bleak Midwinter alongside Jennifer Saunders, and in 40 episodes of Lark Rise to Candleford until 2011.

Many might recognise her surname, as she is the sister of EastEnders legend and Loose Women star Nadia Sawalha. 

The pair haven’t always seen eye to eye over the years having called each other out in the press.

The two managed to put their differences aside, but in 2019, Julia told the Daily Mail that they were “civil” for the sake of their loved ones.
