Hugh Jackman reveals skin cancer scare after having biopsy on his nose: ‘I wanted you to hear it from me’

Hugh Jackman took to Instagram today to share a warning to his fans regarding sun safety after a skin cancer scare.

The Wolverine actor, 54 presented on screen with a bandage wrapped around his nose and explained he had undergone two biopsies.

Despite the Australian star describing his possible Basal Cell Carcinoma diagnosis as the “least dangerous” of the skin cancers, the actor told his fans about the dire need to wear sunscreen with summer (in the US) approaching.

“I know you’ve heard me talk about my basal cell carcinomas before,” he captioned his post.

“I’m going to keep talking about them, if need be. And if it reminds even one person to put on sunscreen with a high SPF, then I’m happy.”

In the video, Jackman announced his skin cancer scare in a bid to ease concerns in case someone saw him out in public.

“I wanted you to hear it from me just in case someone sees me on the street,” he began.

“I’ve just had two biopsies done.”

The star went on to explain his doctor’s concerns.

“I just went to my doctor and she just saw little things, could be or could not be basal cell in her opinion,” he said.

“I’ll find out in two or three days and as soon as I know I’ll let you know.”

To assure his fans, Jackman explained basal cell – the most common form of skin cancer – and used his health scare as an opportunity to remind viewers of the importance of sun safety.

“Just to remind you, Basal Cell in the world of skin cancers is the least dangerous of them all,” he shared.

“However if I can just take this opportunity to remind you summer is coming, please wear sun screen, it’s just not worth it.”

“No matter how much you want to tan, trust me, trust me, trust me,” he added.

The Les Misérables star explained that his skin cancer scare was a result of 25 years of sun exposure and that he wishes he’d been more cautious.

“Put some sunscreen on, you’ll still have an incredible time,” he said. “Please be safe.”

In 2017, the Australian actor had six skin cancers removed from his face in the space of two years. Then, in 2021, a biopsy came back with an inconclusive result, revealing that Jackman could very well have had BCC.
