LUKE SHAW and Erik Ten Hag have given cutting and honest reviews of Manchester United’s shortcomings following their 2-0 defeat to Newcastle.
The Red Devil’s were dismantled by Eddie Howe’s side as they dropped below the Magpies into fourth spot.

Shaw pointed towards a lack of passion and hunger for the reasons that United went home without any points.
He said to Sky Sports: “I think as a team we have to be honest. I do think Newcastle are a very good side, but I don’t think they won the game on quality today.
“I think they won it on passion, hunger, desire, attitude and they clearly had a higher motivation that we have and that can’t be possible.
“I feel like I say the same things every time we lose and like I said, it’s not acceptable and we know that.
“It was a massive game today and they wanted it more, at Man United that cannot be possible”
The clash saw Callum Wilson and Joe Willock on the scoresheet for Newcastle, while United only managed one shot on target.
United boss Ten Hag also gave a scathing summary of why his team was unable to compete.
He told Sky Sports: “I hate to say it but they were better today – especially their determination, passion and desire. They wanted to win more so they won.

“We had our opportunities but then you have to go for goal with the determination they did. It wasn’t good enough. We allowed them too many chances. You have to be hungry and give everything every game.
“Our attacking game wasn’t good enough. I don’t want to focus on one person. It was a team performance.”
It was a bad day all around for the Manchester side as players clashed when leaving the pitch.
Tempers were high throughout the match too with Lisandro Martinez slapping the bench after he was substituted by the manager.
Ten Hag’s side will have to bounce back as they welcome Brentford to Old Trafford on Wednesday night.
The United boss seems confident they can come back from the poor display.
He said: “We have to deal with the setback and learn a lesson. So many times recently, we came back after Liverpool. I don’t have that concern. I believe in the team. I believe we’ll bounce back.”
