Melissa Joan Hart cries describing how she helped kids ‘trying to escape’ Nashville school shooting

Melissa Joan Hart has shared a teary video to Instagram following the Nashville school shooting this week.

The actress, best known for starring in Sabrina the Teenage Witch, described how she and husband Mark Wilkerson helped kindergarten kids “trying to escape” the tragedy at the Covenant School.

Tragically it wasn’t their first experience with a school shooting the 46-year-old told her 1.7 million followers.

Their family moved to Nashville after the Sandy Hook Elementary massacre near their old home in Newtown, Connecticut, and Hart said her children – sons Mason, 17, Braden, 15, and Tucker, 10 – now attend a school “right next to” where the latest incident took place.

“We moved here from Connecticut where we were in school a little ways down from Sandy Hook, so this is our second experience with a school shooting with our kids being in close proximity,” the actress explained in the clip shared on Tuesday (Wednesday AEDT).

“Luckily we are all okay.”

Fighting back tears, Hart explained that her boys were not at school that day and she and Wilkerson “were on our way to school for conferences”.

“We helped a class of kindergartners across a busy highway,” Hart recalled.

“They were climbing out of the woods, they were trying to escape a shooter situation at their school. So we helped these tiny little kids cross the road and get their teachers over there.”

Adding: “We helped a mum reunite with her children and I just … I don’t know what to say. Enough is enough.”

Explaining her delay in posting about Monday’s tragedy, the actress admitted: “This was too raw to post yesterday but wanted you to hear this story.”

Hart wasn’t the only TV personality impacted by incident, which ended with three nine-year-olds and three staff members killed.

Home & Away and Pretty Little Liars alum Australian actress Tammin Sursok got the call every parent in the US dreads.

“It’s really close to home, I know it’s close to home for a lot of you, it’s close to home for us,” the mother-of-two said in a video posted to Instagram Stories.

“I just can’t believe this keeps happening, and you always think that it’s not going to happen to you,” she added.

Sursok’s daughter, Phoenix, who is nine, was kept in lockdown along with all other schools in the neighbourhood during the shooting, she told fans.
