Reese Witherspoon and Jim Toth’s divorce ‘brewing for some time’, sources claim

Reese Witherspoon’s recent split from her husband of 12 years Jim Toth was in no way a surprise for many, sources say.

The Legally Blonde actress, 47, announced her split from Toth, 52, over the weekend, revealing the news in an Instagram post just three days after her birthday and one day before their 12-year marriage anniversary.

Now, sources close to the star have spoken about the split to Us Weekly.

“Reese never wanted her marriage to end, but it’s not a secret that this has been brewing for some time,” the source said.

Witherspoon reportedly still “adores” her ex, with who she had a “very healthy relationship and a lot of great times together,” the source added.

“Like a lot of couples, they grew apart,” they said, noting, “[She] couldn’t have asked for a better stepdad and father to their son, Tennessee.”

In her post to Instagram, Witherspoon told fans that she was splitting from Toth with “care” and “mutual respect”.

“We have some personal news to share,” she wrote. “It is with a great deal of care and consideration that we have made the difficult decision to divorce.”

Witherspoon noted that her and Toth’s “biggest priority” is their 10-year-old son Tennessee James Toth, and their “entire family as we navigate this next chapter.”

“These matters are never easy and are extremely personal. We truly appreciate everyone’s respect for our family’s privacy at this time,” she concluded.

Witherspoon and Toth married in 2011 at Witherspoon’s California ranch after around one year of dating.

The Big Little Lies star also shares 23-year-old daughter Ava and 19-year-old son Deacon with ex-husband Ryan Phillippe.

The news comes after Witherspoon launched her latest major project – the TV mini-series for Daisy Jones & The Six.

Just recently, the actress and producer celebrated the release of the series’ finale, writing, “The finale is HERE!! From the very first time I stepped on set, I knew this production would be special.”

The series stars actress and granddaughter of Elvis Presley, Riley Keough, actor Sam Claflin, Suki Waterhouse and Camila Morrone.
