Coldplay’s Chris Martin reveals he no longer eats dinner after hearing how Bruce Springsteen, 73, keeps in shape

Coldplay frontman Chris Martin has revealed his odd new diet choice – the star no longer eats dinner, halting meals at 4pm each day.

Speaking on TV host Conan O’Brien‘s podcast, Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend, the Fix You singer revealed something even more bizarre – the diet was inspired by none other than American music legend Bruce Springsteen.

“Funnily enough, I don’t actually have dinner anymore. I stop eating at 4, and I learned that from having lunch with Bruce Springsteen,” the singer said with a laugh.

An incredulous O’Brien replied, “really?”, to which Martin said, “that’s really true, yeah.”

Martin, who is 46, revealed that he visited Springsteen and his wife Patti Boyd for lunch one day, and was amazed by how fit the 73-year-old singer appeared.

“I was on a really strict diet anyway, but I was like ‘Bruce looks even more in shape than me’,” the singer recalled.

“And Patti said, ‘Oh he’s only eating one meal a day’, so I was like ‘Well, there we go. That’s my next challenge,'” he said.

The pair went on to joke about what “lunch” actually constituted for Springsteen, with O’Brien suggesting that the singer could be eating a “giant vat of beef chilli” for his midday meal.

Not one to miss a beat, Martin joked, “The chef came out and he said, ‘Today we have flank of buffalo with a steroid sauce.'”

Martin didn’t go on to share the health benefits he feels from eating, supposedly, only two meals a day, nor whether he religiously sticks to this diet.

Interestingly, his admission comes after his ex-wife, Gwyneth Paltrow, fluttered feathers on social media after revealing her supposed everyday diet.

Speaking to her go-to “gut doctor”, Dr Will Cole, on his podcast The Art of Being Well, Paltrow caused an uproar when she revealed she eats a minimal diet most days – coffee in the morning while she intermittent fasts, a light lunch at noon (usually bone broth) and then “lots of vegetables” for her paleo dinner.

In the interview, which in no way saw Paltrow encouraging people to follow her diet, we might add, the Oscar-winner said it is “really important to me to support my detox” – a line that also confused viewers.

The news was outraging to many, but unsurprising from the health-obsessed Goop founder, whose wellness brand spruiks all kinds of strange products that claim to improve quality of life, happiness and well-being.

Following the interview, dietitians accused Paltrow of following a “disordered” diet, saying her apparent daily diet was “not enough food for anyone”.

Paltrow has not responded to the backlash yet, seeing as she is currently preoccupied with a mammoth lawsuit in Utah, which sees retired optometrist Terry Sanderson suing her for a whopping $US330,000 ($448,000) after the star allegedly crashed into her while skiing, causing brain damage and breaking his ribs.
